  • After securing the 3-3A conference’s second seed and locking up a berth in the 2012 Regional Tournament, the Tuckerman Lady Bulldogs entered the District Tournament at Manila with a hint of unfinished business, seeking a rematch with conference champion, Rivercrest.
That rematch never materialized as the Lady Colts were knocked off 2-1 in the semi-finals by Corning and the Lady Bulldogs took full advantage of their misfortune as they hammered Piggott 19-0 in three innings in the semi-finals before disposing of Corning 7-2 in Tuesday’s Finals to earn the District Championship.
In the opener, Sara Shipman led the Lady Bulldogs as she struck out seven of nine batters in throwing a three-inning perfect game, while the offense powered to a 19-0 win.
Lyz Winemiller drove in four runs, Shipman also drove in four runs, Emily Winemiller and Katelyn McGonigal also had an RBI each in the win.
In the finals, Corning jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning before Tuckerman scored four times in the third inning as Allyson Barnes and McGonigal had two RBIs each.
After Corning cut the lead in half, 4-2, in the top of the fifth inning, Tuckerman again extended their advantage with a two-out RBI hit by McGonigal to score Barnes.
Tuckerman put the game away with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning as Lyz Winemiller and Shipman had RBI hits in the frame.
The Lady Bulldogs, the number one seed from the 3-3A conference will play Mountain View Friday at 5 p.m. at Harrison.
