Coach Michael Long's George Kell Motors squad has taken full advantage of early season dominating pitching performances to jump to a 5-1 mark overall and more importantly, 3-0 in Zone 2 play.
Kell Motors allowed only seven hits over their first 31 innings with Wynne becoming the latest victims Monday evening as Newport upended them 9-3 in the Zone 2 game.
Grant Black picked up the win as he tossed five innings of one hit ball allowing only three unearned runs while striking out three and walking one.  Michael Reynolds allowed one hit in two scoreless innings of relief while striking out four of the seven batters he faced.
Kell Motors opened the scoring with three runs in the home half of the first inning as Spencer Shannon singled, stole second and scored on a throwing error by Wynne.  Reynolds, who reached on the throwing error scored on an RBI single by Black for a 2-0 lead.  Wil Hubbard singled to left and he and Black moved up on another Wynne error.  Black scored on Matthew Duvall's sacrifice fly for a 3-0 lead.
Wynne scored two unearned runs in the top of the second as Newport's four-game errorless streak came to an end, however Kell Motors responded in the bottom of the frame.
Cade Niswonger drew a one-out walk and moved to second on a Shannon single.  Both runners advanced on a wild pitch and Reynolds drew a walk to load the bases for Black.  He cleared the bases with a ringing double into the rightfield corner and a 6-2 lead.  He later scored on a two-out single by Colton Willis.
Kell Motors added two runs in the bottom of the fourth when Black singled to start the inning.
 Duvall was hit-by-a-pitch with one-out and Gunnar Bullard singled to load the bases.  With two outs, Josh Cooper and Niswonger drew bases-loaded walks to plate two runners for a 9-2 lead.
Wynne added an unearned run in the top of the fifth on back-to-back Newport errors for the final margin.
Black led the attack at the plate with three hits and drove in four.  Shannon and Hubbard had two hits each while Bullard and Willis also had a hit each.
In the five-inning nightcap, Wynne knocked off Kell Motors 8-3 as Tyler Ball suffered the loss on the mound.  He allowed four runs - three earned - in 2.2 innings of work allowing only two hits and striking out two while walking two.  
Tyler Chatman allowed four runs on two hits and struck out two in 2.1 innings of relief.  He also walked five.
Shannon, Hubbard and Cooper had the lone hits for Newport with Ball and Cooper adding RBIs.
Kell Motors also picked up a pair of victories Friday afternoon over one of Jonesboro's four teams  as they won 10-0 behind a one-hit, five inning shutout from Willis.
Three pitchers combined to allow one hit in a five-inning 6-1 victory in the second game.
Hubbard tossed two no-hit innings allowing only one walk.  
Shannon allowed one run on one hit while walking three.  Warren Smith worked a 1-2-3 fifth inning.
In the opener, Duvall had two hits and drove in three runs, while Smith and Hubbard had two hits and two RBIs each.  Devante Neal added a hit and three runs battted in while Hayden Schulz and Ball also had a hit each.
In the nightcap, Hubbard had two hits including a two-run triple, to lead the way for Kell Motors.  Neal and Ball also had basehits for Kell Motors who collected one walk and four hit batters on their way to the win.
Kell Motors will be in action this weekend as they travel to Texarkana for a tournament where they will square off with Minden, La. Friday, June 8 at 4 p.m. followed by games with Ennis, Texas Saturday, June 9 at 1 p.m. before taking on the host, Texarkana Razorbacks, Saturday at 7 p.m.
They will be in action Tuesday, June 12 at 5;30 p.m. as they will travel to Jonesboro to take on the AAA Ricemen before returning home to host the annual George Kell Classic June 14-17 at George Kell Park.
