  • According to a police report from the Newport Police Department, on July 27, 2012, at about 11:13 AM, a resident of Teresa Drive in Newport reported that their vehicle had been broken into in the overnight hours.

  • The resident reported that they have a video surveillance system at their residence and that the incident had been captured on video. The owner of the vehicle reported that a purse was stolen from the car. Investigators retrieved a copy of the video and were able to develop Michael Moldan, a 21 year old white male from Newport, as a suspect. Moldan was arrested later on July 27 on an unrelated warrant. The video shows that the theft occurred at about 2:24 AM on the morning of July 27. After being advised of his Miranda rights and waiver, Moldan agreed to answer questions and admitted that he was in fact the person shown on the video entering the vehicle and removing property from it. Moldan was arrested and transported to the Jackson County Detention Center. He appeared in Newport District Court on July 30 and his bond was set at $10,000.00. He is expected to be charged with the offenses of Breaking or Entering and Theft of Property.
