Mrs. Mary Violet (Runsick) Provence, 92, of Tuckerman, departed this life Monday, Aug. 6, 2012 at Jonesboro.
She was born Jan. 27, 1920 in Poughkeepsie, and was the youngest of eight children of William Bryant and Betty Catherine (Gawf) Runsick. Mrs. Provence was a beloved citizen of Tuckerman, where she and her husband, Wes, managed Clausen’s Motel for several years. She was a foster grandparent to countless Tuckerman Elementary Students and a member of the Tuckerman First Baptist Church. Mrs. Provence loved flowers, gardening and was an avid reader. She especially loved cooking and spending time with her family. Mrs. Provence was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley Earl Provence; her great-grandson, Michael Wesley Cowell; four brothers, Marlton, Herbert, Floyd and Hershal Runsick; and three sisters, Jettie Neely, Ottie Ford and Tiny Ashburry. She is survived by two sons, Bill Provence and wife, Annabelle, of LaPlace, La., and James Wesley Provence of Tuckerman; two daughters, Glenna Kay Smart and husband, J.W., of Tuckerman, and Sandra Provence of Tuckerman; six grandchildren, Van Provence, Paul Provence, Rob Provence, Becky Hamilton, Jennifer Dilday, and Samantha Anderson; eight great-grandchildren, Loren Provence, Sara Hamilton, Paul Hamilton, Hannah Dilday, Claire Dilday, Maggie Anderson, Emily Provence, and Will Provence; and special friends Mary Ellen O’Banion and Melissa Davis. Friends may visit at the funeral home Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 10, 2012 at First United Methodist Church of Tuckerman, with interment in Gracelawn Cemetery. Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Van Provence, Paul Provence, Rob Provence, Jeff Dilday, Gray Anderson, and David Hamilton. Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Riley, J.W.
