Dr. Luther R. White, Jr., was taken by the angels to his Heavenly Home Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012.
He was born to Luther R. White, Sr. and Lilly Grace Milsap White Feb. 14, 1924. He was a devoted, gentle, and respected physician. Dr. White attended Mississippi College, UAMS and did his Pediatric Residency at Children’s Hospital in Little Rock. Having a deep desire for understanding of the human brain he did a Psychiatry residency in Boston, Mass. He practiced pediatrics at Collom and Carney Clinic in Texarkana, then returned to do psychiatry in Greenville, Miss., Regional Mental Health Center, and was the first medical director of the Senior Care Center in Newport. Dr. White also had a private office where he saw patients, if they could pay or not, being the special person that he was. He was preceded in death by a son, Paul David White; a daughter, Michelle Kennedy Walters; and his parents. He leaves behind his wife of 41 years, Nancy; a daughter, Susan Grace White Smith-Peterson and husband, Doug; granddaughter, Kathryn Grace Smith-Peterson; one grandson, James Alan Kennedy; one great-grandson, Kayden Alan Kennedy; brothers, Bill and Bob White and their wives and families; many cousins; and several loving friends. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 7, 2012 at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel with burial services at 4 p.m. Friday afternoon at Red Bayou Cemetery in New Boston, Texas.
