Mr. Sam Adams of Fayetteville, formerly of Newport, departed this life in Fort Smith Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, at the age of 82.
He was born July 24, 1930, in Newport, one of seven children born to of A.L. and Bertha Mae (Bullard) Adams.
Mr. Adams was a member of the Newport High School Class of 1948. He was a self-employed farmer and was one of the owners and operators of Adams Brothers Farm and Ranch and Texaco. He believed in hard work and he loved to work. Mr. Adams retired in 2002 and true to his character, he enjoyed retirement. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. Deer hunting was one of his passions and he traveled from Colorado to New Mexico enjoying the sport. He loved life and he lived life to it’s fullest enjoying every moment possible. Mr. Adams greatest love and joy was his family. He was a member of the Jackson Masonic Lodge #191 and a member of Holden Avenue Church of Christ where he served as a Deacon for several years.
Mr. Adams was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Danick Marie Adams; a son-in-law, Darrell Day; two brothers, Andy Lee Adams, Jr. and Harry Mack “Hawk” Adams; two nephews, Payton Burgess and Phil Coleman; and his parents, A.L. and Bertha Adams.
He is survived by three children, Douglas Adams of Jacksonville, Susan Adams Day of Little Rock, and Scott Adams of Fayetteville; and their mother, Tillie Adams of Newport; a niece he raised as a daughter, Rose Higgins of Little Rock; 14 grandchildren, Amy Stivers, Rachel Cox, Heather Tapp, Bronson Adams, Adam Moore, Joey Moore, J.D. Day, Seth Day, Scotty Adams, and Drake Adams, John Higgins, Scott Higgins, Tracy Higgins, and Denise Higgins; 14 great-grandchildren, Justin Hines, Vivian Biles, Matthew Adair, Parker Moore, Brodie Moore, Kinlee Moore, Triston Day, Joshua Day, Sarah Day, Jacob Higgins, Jackson Higgins, Austin Higgins, Destiny Higgins, and Avery Higgins; one great-great granddaughter, Nevaeh Adams; one brother, Guy Dale Adams of Newport; and three sisters, Betty Coleman of Searcy, Doris Ware of Tucson, Ariz., and Joanne Burgess of Little Rock; many nieces and nephews and a lifetime of friends.
Friends may visit at the funeral home, Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012, from 1-3 p.m. with services beginning at 3 p.m. at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. J.L. May, Mr. Ryan Wilson, and Mr. Llano Robinson will officiate.
