Mrs. Betty Jean (West) Lewis, 73, of Newport died Monday, Sept. 17, 2012.
She was born Nov. 23, 1938 in Grubbs, the daughter of Johnny and Nellie (Carey) West. Mrs. Lewis enjoyed working in her flowers, gardening, and cooking. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Tuffy Lewis; one daughter, Linda Lewis; three brothers, Billy Dean West, Charles Eugene West, and Roy West; and one sister, Mary Katherine West. Mrs. Lewis is survived by one son, Mark Dwain Lewis of Newport; one daughter, Lwanda Carson and husband, Jerry, of Tupelo; one brother, David West of Weldon; two sisters, Lucille Baty of Newport, and Marie Howard of Texas; four grandchildren, Jonathan Wayne Bryant and wife, Amanda, Brandi Shonell Carson, Cheston Scott Lewis, and Payton Dwain Lewis; three great-grandchildren, Jayce Bryant, Jiles Bryant, and Chloe Lewis; and her close friend, David Penix. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 21, 2012 at Jackson’s Newport Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Ballew’s Chapel Cemetery. Friends visited at the funeral home, Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012 from 6-8 p.m Pallbearers were Johnny Ray Baty, Justin King, Shane Baty, Kenny Baty, Joey Penix, and Davey Penix.
