The Jackson County Historical Society and the Jackson County Library will co-sponsor a free genealogy workshop on Saturday, October 20, 2012. The event will be held at the Library, 213 Walnut Street, from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM. Lunch will be provided to the participants.

Jan Davenport, currently the Historian/Office Manager at Historic Oakland-Fraternal Cemetery Park in Little Rock, will facilitate the workshop –Genealogy 101. Ms. Davenport is Past President of the Arkansas Genealogical Society, having served on the AGS Board of Directors 1991-2010.  Jan was also Vice President–Administration for the Federation of Genealogical Societies and was National Conference Chair for the FGS/AGS 2009 National Conference held in Little Rock and a founding member of the newly formed Central Arkansas Genealogical and Historical Society, Inc. Ms. Davenport retired in 2002 from the Arkansas History Commission where she worked as a Library Technical Assistant. A native of Oklahoma, Jan moved to Arkansas as a teenager. She has enjoyed living in 13 states and Scotland before moving back to Arkansas in 1982. Reservations must be made by October 13, 2012. 20 Computers will be provided by the Arkansas State Library to be used by the workshop participants. They are available on a first come basis. Others, who can provide their own laptop computers, which have Wi-Fi capabilities, are also welcome to attend but must also be registered.
