  • Join them Saturday, Oct. 20 at 6 p.m. at the Newport Country Club to remember one of the great leaders of Newport’s school system and community.   The toast and tribute dinner will feature John Pennington as Master of Ceremonies and many distinguished speakers reminiscing and sharing their stories about John.   Mr. Mullins served as a mentor to many students, teachers and administrators during his tenure as Superintendent.  It is only fitting that Big Brothers Big Sisters honor the man who cared so much about the welfare of children.  They will celebrate his legacy while enjoying dinner, a silent and live auction, and the opportunity to make a difference for children in your community!   “Our goal this year is to raise $12,000 to provide children needing a mentor the opportunity to have a Big Brother or Big Sister.  One way the community can help us hit our goal is by becoming a sponsor or signing up as a contestant.  We have several sponsorship levels for this exciting opportunity to partner with the largest one-to-one mentoring organization in the world” says Ronnie Kay Erwin, Big Sister and Newport Resource Board President.   “The Toast and Tribute Dinner is an easy and fun way to support kids in the community.  We are excited to support and promote Big Brothers Big Sisters locally.  All children need strong positive role models and mentors in their homes, schools, and public life. They need permanent connections.  They need to see sound examples of “who” and “what” they can become from the adults they see in daily life.  We recognize that mentoring programs created and implemented by Big Brothers Big Sisters are proven interventions that can help a child or youth reach his or her fullest potential. The dinner is our way of investing in the future citizens of Newport” says Ronnie Kay.   Tickets to the event are $25 per person and the doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the door. To get sponsorship information, reserve a table of eight or more, or to learn more about BBBS contact the BBBS at 870-612-8888 or email amanda@bigbrothersbigsistersnca.org.   All proceeds will help the local BBBS agency match many more children with a Big Brother, Big Sister, or Big Couple.  Big Brothers Big Sisters is the largest and most recognized one-to-one mentoring organization in the world serving children ages 6-13 who need a positive role model.  You can get more information about volunteering by visiting the Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Central Arkansas website at www.bigbrothersbigsistersnca.org
