  • Laddy Lashay Wagner, 54, of Newark, Arkansas, died Thursday, October 18, 2012, after a courageous 18-month battle against pancreatic cancer.

  • He was born on July 6, 1958 in Jonesboro, Arkansas, the oldest son of J.D. and Myrtle (Coots) Wagner, of Swifton.
    Mr. Wagner was raised in the Swifton Church of Christ and was baptized at the age of 12 years. Following graduation, he attended college at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. For decades, he was engaged in Wagner and Sons farming operation, while also commercially manufacturing truck beds and trailers with his father and brother. He taught welding classes at the college and ended his career as a commercial cross-country truck driver. He delighted his young grandchildren, nieces and nephews with clever little gadgets he picked up at different truck stops while on the road. Mr. Wagner had varied interest. He was fun spirited and well-known for his keen sense of humor and wit. He was a Star Trek fan, an avid reader and a chess player. He especially enjoyed playing word board games, writing music and playing his guitar.
    Mr. Wagner is survived by his wife, Marquetta Wagner of Newark; two daughters, Shalyn Wagner Hahn and her husband, Chris, of Searcy, and Brittany Wagner Peacock and her husband, Dane, of Rogers. He also leaves behind his five dearly loved grandchildren; Kaiser Hahn, Nevaeh Hahn, Brecken Hahn, Maysun Peacock and Miles Brisco Peacock.
    Mr. Wagner was preceded in death by his grandparents; Brisco and Ruth Coots and Jeff and Eula Pearl Wagner, all of Jonesboro; his father, J.D. Wagner, of Swifton; and two brother-in-laws, Gerald W. Carlyle of Newport and Michael Lynn Alexander of Cherokee Village. He is survived by his mother, Myrtle Coots Wagner, of Tuckerman; brother, Brian Wagner, of Tuckerman; and two sisters, Ginger Wagner Carlyle of Newport and Debra Wagner Doyle of Searcy, together with a host of loving nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles, as well as, extended family, in-laws and friends.
    Visitation will be held Sunday, October 21, 2012 from 6:00 p.m.to 8:00 p.m. at Dillinger Funeral Home in Newport. A graveside ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 22, 2012, at Swifton Cemetery, with Robert Templeton, officiating.
    Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Ronnie Doyle, Jeff Doyle, Brannon Doyle, Jimmy O'dell, Chad O'dell and Benjamin Wagner Carlyle.
    Honorary pallbearers are Vic Hawkins, Randy Riggs, Tim Hawkins, David Dotson, Gene Dowty, Tim Johnson, David Coleman, Tom Wood, Deral Duncan, Michael Burton, Steve Tinsley, Buddy Elliott, Ray Burton and Jimmy Milligan.
