Come celebrate the holiday season at Jacksonport State Park Courthouse by attending the “Christmas Ornaments Workshop” Saturday, Dec. 8 at 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and the “Christmas Stocking Workshop” Saturday, Dec. 15 at 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
During the Victorian Era, Christmas celebrations were different from today’s celebrations. Christmas trees were smaller and only decorate during Christmas week. Early Christmas ornaments were hand made from color paper, card, doilies and ribbons. Learn how to make three different types of ornaments to decorate your Christmas tree. The workshop is great for kids. The fee is $5 per person.
The stockings hung by the fire on Christmas Eve in the 1800's were the children’s regular stockings. Today we can make fancy stockings to hang on the fireplace mantle for St. Nicholas fill with presents or use as a Christmas decoration. The stockings will be made out of felt, glitter, ribbons and many more decorations. This is a great workshop for the entire family. The fee is $5 per person.
Reservations for either workshop need to be made three days in advance. For more information, and reservations, please contact the park interpreter at Jacksonport State Park, 205 Avenue Street, Newport, AR, 72112 or telephone: 870-523-2143 or email: email@example.com.
