The Jackson County 4-H Shooting Sports Club will hold a reorganizational meeting Sunday, Nov. 18 beginning at 1:30 p.m. at the Jackson County Extension Office which is located just north of Exit 80 on the east side of Highway 67.
The 4-H Shooting Sports Program is a statewide program of Arkansas 4-H. The disciplines taught in the program are shotgun, rifle, muzzleloader, pistol, and archery. The program focuses on safe use and proper handling of firearms. The program is taught by trained and certified instructors. The program culminates with 2 statewide competitions at the Arkansas 4-H Center in June and July. Participating youth are not required to participate in these statewide competitions in order to be a member of the club.
4-H is open to youth between the ages of 5 and 19. Only those between the ages of 9 and 19 are allowed to participate in competitive activities but anyone between the ages of 5 and 8 are allowed to participate in the educational, non-competitive aspects of the program. There is not an enrollment fee for the program.
Items on the agenda for the reorganizational meeting include an overview of the 4-H Shooting Sports Program, instructions on how to enroll in the program which is done online, a session on the safety rules of the program, and an opportunity to shoot air rifles. Meeting locations throughout the year will be either at the Extension Office or at the shooting range south of the Extension Office on Highway 224, depending on the weather and meeting content.
This meeting is open to all interested person without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, age, disability, marital or veteran status, or any other legally protected status. Persons with disabilities who require alternative means for communication of program information (large print, audiotapes, etc.) should notify the county Extension office as soon as possible prior to the activity.
