  • Felts performed to a sold out crowd in Batesville in August, 2011.
Born in Keiser, Felts moved to Bernie, Mo. where a talent scout discovered him at a talent show.
He recorded his first single, "Kiss-a Me Baby," at the age of 16, and his career skyrocked with the help of Roy Orbison and Johnny Cash.  He enjoyed a modest pop success with a remake of the Drifters "Honey Love," which earned a position on the Billboard Hot 100.  He went on to release such songs as "Lonely Teardrops" and "Pink and Black Day," but it was not until the 1970's that he began enjoying success on a national level as a country singer.  His first major hit came in 1973 with a cover of "Drift Away."  In 1975, his hit single, "Reconsider Me," soared to number one on the charts.
Felts entered the 2000's numbered among the top country and rockabilly artists of all time.  His high, sometimes falsetto voice, led to his nickname, "Narvel the Marvel."  He had many records reach the top of the European airplay charts.  More than 200 oh his recordings have been released on CD, and they continue to sell around the world.  Throughout the years, Felts has made many television appearances in the United States and abroad.
Main Street Batesville's executive director, Paula Grimes, states that she and her husband have promoted Felts twice at Ozarka College in Melbourne and they have become very good friends.  The David Grimes All Star band has backed Narvel numerous times, and that will be the case with this show.
"Narvel cut his feel in half and the All Star Band cut their fee as well, since this is a fundraiser for Main Street Batesville, and is intended to promote downtown and draw people from all over the area.  We are so happy to be able to show off the theater, which is now home to the Fellowship Bible Church.  It is a beautiful building, Paula Grimes said.
