Deadline to apply for go red funding extended

Public and private entities and non-profit organizations in Arkansas that own and operate eligible diesel equipment can apply to receive funding under the program. Organizations can receive up to $50,000. About $250,000 is available in all.
Projects that are selected for awards must reduce diesel emissions in Arkansas. Projects will be given priority if they conserve diesel fuel, are cost-effective and maximize public health benefits. Projects that are in populous areas will also be given priority. Eligible equipment includes buses, trucks, marine engines and non-road engines.
Emissions can be reduced by employing exhaust controls, engine upgrades, idle reduction technologies, engine replacement and vehicle/equipment replacement.
The funding is provided by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and distributed by ADEQ. Since October 2008, when the program was launched, more than $1.1 million in grants have been awarded in Arkansas.
The deadline for ADEQ to receive proposals is Dec. 20, 2012. Awards will be made by mid-January. Projects must be completed by Aug. 31, 2013. Applications and guidelines for “Go RED” funding can be found on the ADEQ website at www.adeq.state.ar.us under “Hot Topics.”
