According to Lt. Patrick Weatherford, Newport Police Department, on Jan. 16, NPD officers were notified that a shooting had occurred at 2604 McDougald St. in Newport.
Police say, upon arrival they found 43-year-old Eugene Foster, of Newport, who was suffering from a single gunshot wound to the face.
According statements from Foster and witnesses, Foster was at his apartment when Baumgarner and Dostson knocked on his door. Baumgarner asked Foster if he was a third party, in which Foster replied "no." Dotson then gave the order "shoot him" prompting Baumgarner to fire a single round into Foster's face.
Baumgarner, according to Weatherford, was arrested a short time later and confessed to police that he was in fact the shooter.
Following the capture of Baumgarner, police say they executed a search warrant at the Dotson resident, Country Club Road, where they found 29-year-old Roxanne Sasser, of Fisher, who they arrested on the charge of hindering apprehension or prosecution.
Other details of the search at the Dotson residence are not being released at this time.
Police say Dotson turned himself in later that evening and was arrested on the charge of criminal attempt to commit first degree murder.
Baumgarner went before the Newport District Court on Jan. 18 where he was formally charged with criminal attempt to commit first degree murder with his bond set at $250,000.
Police are still investigating the reasonings behind the shooting.
"While we do have a working theory on the motive of this case, we are unable to release any information regarding that topic at this time," said Lt. Weatherford.
