Gideon was in the winepress secretly threshing wheat in order to hide it from the Midianites. The angel of the Lord appeared unto him and said, “The Lord is with you, you mighty man of valor!” [Judges 6:12]  I can hear Gideon asking, “Who me?”  Surely goodness the angel had made a mistake.
However, that was not the case. Gideon, the weakest man in all of Israel was chosen by God to accomplish a great task.  Even though the odds appeared to be against him, it wasn’t so with God.  God had a simple but brilliant plan.  He took Gideon’s small army of 300 warriors and divided them into three groups and gave them victory over the Midianites which consisted of more than 100,000 men.  Isn’t that amazing?
We are told in 1 Corinthians 1:27-29 that, “God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.  He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things-and the things that are not-to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him.”
Although Gideon was fearful when he stepped up into the position of the Israelite leader, realizing that his only way out was to trust God.  Gideon reminds me of what Paul says to the Corinthians; “For when I am weak, then I am strong.”   (2 Corinthians 12:10)
My dear friend, perhaps you are struggling with some weak areas in your life.  May be they are holding you back.   However, it’s been said many times that man’s extremity is God’s opportunity.  Therefore, be strong and let God work through you.
Just as God was with Gideon, He is with you too; you mighty person of valor.  Let the hero within you rise up and know that you can’t win the battle alone, but with God it can be accomplished.
