Newport resident Anisha Nevels, 30, is expected to face charges of battery in the first degree after her role in an argument Saturday.

According to Lt. Patrick Weatherford, Newport Police Department, Satruday afternoon at approximately 2:54 p.m. police responded to a call at 1055 Hout Lane where they found 30-year-old Shaunelle Arnold, Newport, suffering with a serious cut to the left side of her face. Arnold told police that she had been in a argument with Nevels when Nevels "sliced her face open with a box cutter." Police say Arnold was transported to a local hospital where she needed 34 stitches to close the 10 inch wound. According to police, a witness also identified Nevels as the wielder of the box cutter. Nevels is currently being held in the Jackson County Detention Center and is expected to appear in Court Tuesdy, Feb. 19.
