I saw a photo of this deer rock and fell in love with it!  This was a fun piece to paint.  The possibilities are endless on the final look of the piece.  The rock or sky colors could be changed to match something in your house.  This would make a special gift for some of those deer hunting friends.

Deer Rock

  1. Paint sky area behind deer head with daffodil, with daffodil mixed with white drybrush over the yellow area; make it lighter as you go toward the top of the sky.  Cover more than what you want with the yellow (this area will be used for blending).

  2. The pink area of the sky drybrush with dusty rose mixed with white to a soft pink color.  Cover more than what you want with the pink (this area will be used for blending).

  3. Paint the blue part of the sky with navy blue mixed with white for a lighter blue.  Feather the blue down into the pink to make clouds.  Use a clean brush and white paint and make clouds.

  4. Base coat the rest of the piece black.

  5. Dry brush the top section of the mountains, rocks behind pine trees, side and back of the piece with fog. Drybrush with light grey and highlight with white.

  6. Drybrush middle and bottom section of the mountain, deer and trees with real brown.

  7. Dry brush middle section of mountains with fog.

  8. Dry brush bottom section of mountain with rust.

  9. Dry brush foreground rocks with dark grey and very lightly with shadow green and highlight with white.

  10. Dry brush pine trees with shadow green and highlight with leaf green.  Paint tree trunks with real brown.

  11. Dry brush the deer with medium brown.  With a clean brush dry brush white around eyes, belly, tail, chest, ears, and legs (refer to photo).  Paint nose and eyes black with a white pupil.

  12. Spray with sealer.
