Arkansas State University-Newport announced recently that Bobby Hicks has joined the staff on the Newport campus as a Public Safety Officer.

A native of Houston, Texas, Hicks graduated from Batesville High School and worked as a Sergeant for the University of Arkansas-Little Rock police force before accepting the position at ASUN.  Hicks earned is AAS from ASU-Beebe in Computer Systems Technology and also holds an Advanced Law Enforcement certificate.  “I really like this area of the state, and I wanted a change of pace from the hustle and bustle of Little Rock,” said Hicks, who comes to ASUN with 13 years of law enforcement experience.  “I felt like I could make more of a direct impact on the safety and security of the ASU-Newport campus, because I will have more of a hands-on approach.  Everyone at ASUN is happy to see you and always smiling, which makes for a very close-knit working environment with our staff and students.” A combat veteran of the United States Marine Corps with 10 years of service, Hicks and his wife Tammy have four children and four grandchildren.  His hobbies include reading, shooting and working with his dogs. “We are certainly happy to have Bobby as a part of our staff at ASU-Newport,” said Jeff Grizzle, ASUN Public Safety Officer Supervisor.  “He is a great fit for our department and brings a level of experience and enthusiasm that will definitely be an asset to our campus.” Arkansas State University-Newport is a degree granting community college with campuses in Jonesboro, Marked Tree and Newport, Arkansas.  It is a part of the Arkansas State University System.  For more information about what is going on at ASU-Newport, visit us on our Facebook page, where you will find news and photos highlighting achievements and events at all three campuses.  Follow us on Twitter at @ASUNewport for quick information about what is going on at ASUN.
