There have been four major log jams in the area for more than 40 years. The jams flood thousands of acres of land and impede water from properly draining after heavy rains.

Rain water that drains more efficiently in the basin will help protect what hardwoods have survived and aid in the planting and growth of new hardwoods.
Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe has pledged 150,000.00 to help fund the project. This is a match grant with locally matched funds.Two drainage districts Cache River and Willow Slough have sponsored this project.
This project has excellent congressional support.
Congressman Rick Crawford was also influential in the project's success and will be present at the press conference.
The Cache River Nonprofit Association consists of nine county judges, a mayor and several agribusiness representatives.
