A selection of art from Young Arkansas Artists 51st Annual Exhibition will be on view through March 23, at the Jackson County Library. Works in this show were selected from the exhibition that was held at the Arkansas Arts Center in Little Rock April 20 - May 27, 2012.
In 1961, the Arkansas Arts Center hosted its first Young Arkansas Artists Exhibition. In its 51st year, the Young Arkansas Artists Exhibition recognized the creative achievements of students. This exhibition showcases artworks in all media created by students in kindergarten though 12th grade in Arkansas. Teachers from 177 schools across the state submitted 667 artworks for consideration. Members of the Arkansas Arts Educators Association selected 116 artworks for the exhibition. Amanda Linn from the Department of Education selected the awards for the exhibition. She selected on "Best of Class" and two "Honorable Mention" awards for each grade level. This exhibition is park of the Arkansas Arts Center Traveling Exhibitions program which is sponsored by: Bank of America; Horace C. Cabe Foundation; The brown Foundation, Inc., of Houston; Centennial Bank; Union Pacific Foundation; and Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas. Grant support is received form the Arkansas Arts Council, an agency of the Department of Arkansas Heritage, and the Nation Endowment for the Arts. Locally, this traveling exhibition is sponsored by the Jackson County Library. The Arkansas Arts Center is a dynamic center for the arts. It features a museum with an outstanding collection of international art. The strength of the collection is works on paper with and emphasis on drawings and contemporary craft objects. It also includes painting, sculpture and the largest U.S. repository of water colors and drawings by 19th century artist Paul Signac. The AAC also features the away-winning Children's Theatre, art classes and public programs. In addition, the AAC offers touring programs for communities, such as Children's Theatre on Tour, the Artmobile and traveling exhibitions.
