Model Bar Rafaeli has come under fire from the Israel Defense Forces after appearing in an ad produced by the Israeli Foreign Ministry. Rafaeli avoided the compulsary draft required of all females over the age of 18 by exploiting a loophole in the draft rules that stated married women are excused from service. Worried that serving in the country's military would hurt her modeling career, Rafaeli married a family friend in 2007 and quickly filed for divorce after receiving an exemption. After seeing Rafaeli's ad, the Israel Defense Forces released a statement saying "The choice of a representative who did not serve in the military as an official presenter on behalf of Israel, conveys the message that we ignore and forgive evasion of enlistment, and encourages identification, among youths of both sexes, with the success of those who did not enlist."
