Dr. Hon K.Poon, M.D., F.A.C.S., well known general surgeon in our community for over thirty years will hold a “book signing” at the Harris Hospital community room on May 21, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m.
“Journal Of A Country Surgeon” appears to be Dr. Pahn HanJi's (Dr. Poon) autobiography through the eyes of the fictional character named Dr. Patrick Zito. The book tells stories of a general surgeon who practiced medicine for over 30 years in a small Southern town. The surgeon was born in Hong Kong to Chinese parents, immigrated as a young man to the United States, received vigorous medical training in Baltimore, Maryland and chose to pursue a career in Miniville, Arkansas – population 12,500.Using the prism of his own life experience, the author makes the personalities in the rural town come alive through vivid stories: Vivien the friendly realtor, J.B. the gynecologist neighbor, John and Raymond the brave patients, Howard and Harvey the “bad apples”, Jim Pinkett the insurance agent and his hunting buddies, Dr. Zito's colleagues, staff, crew and nurses, Stu the wife-fearing ex-Marine, and Mrs. J who demanded the Doc to “go back to Korea where you came from.” Make plans to attend, speak to the author and pick up your signed copy of this great book.
