Loftin S. Kent Jr. of Newport was one of seven students to be awarded a $500 Customer Scholarship from AgHeritage Farm Credit Services. He is the son of Loftin and Marcia Kent. A senior at Newport High School, Mr. Kent plans to attend Mississippi State University.
Mr. Kent has participated and served in numerous academic leadership programs to include: FFA; Future Business Leaders of America; and the Bible Club. He received numerous Newport High School Outstanding Student Award Certificates to include Advanced Placement Language and Composition, Environmental and Spatial Technologies, and Greenhouse Management. Mr. Kent is a member of First United Methodist Church of Newport, was a Rural Electric Washington D.C. Youth Tour participant, and served as Youth New Vision Newport member. Other scholarship recipients are Ashlee E. Johnson of Monticello, Caleb T. Weaver of Lonoke, Sarah C. Lindley of Holly Grove, Caleb B. Mason of Bradford, Abby M. Walker of Star City, and Darby W. Recipients were chosen for their outstanding academic performance and school related and extracurricular participation.
