Police chief: wreck "a mess"
Arkansas State Trooper Chris Harper confirmed four injuries in a Monday afternoon car crash.
One of those injured was flown to Baptist Health Medical Center-Little Rock in critical condition, Harper said. The wreck victim in critical condition was a passenger in a Honda sedan that was struck by an oncoming pickup truck on Highway 7 between Caddo Valley and DeGray Lake.
A second person, the driver of the sedan, was flown to UAMS in Little Rock with non-life-threatening injuries. "He had two broken arms, one broke leg and possibly a broken neck," Harper said of the driver.
Names of the four people involved in the two-car accident have not been released, and the occupants of the pickup truck that apparently caused the accident were both juveniles.
"The driver of the pickup is going to be OK," Harper said, adding that the 9-year-old passenger of the pickup "possibly has two broken feet."
Harper said the driver of the pickup crossed the centerline and hit the sedan head-on in the northbound lane. "The truck hit the car in the northbound lane, which caused the pickup to overturn," Harper explained. "On impact it was kind of like a ricochet effect: it pushed the green Honda backward and it spun around 180 degrees."
---ORIGINAL STORY (posted Monday afternoon)---
At least four people were injured Monday afternoon in a two-vehicle accident on Highway 7 in Caddo Valley.
At 3 p.m. little was known about the accident, which occurred at about 12:45 p.m. near the Fish Net restaurant.
Caddo Valley Police Chief Aaron Collier said he was the second official on scene of the wreck but had no further information other than two medivac helicopters were dispatched to the scene of the head-on sedan/pickup collision.
Collier said four people — two in each vehicle — suffered injuries, and both lanes of the state highway were shut for more than an hour.
"It was a mess," Collier said. "Three people were trapped. They had to use the Jaws of Life to get them out." According to Collier, both occupants of the sedan were trapped while one person was trapped in the pickup truck.
