Rhonda Jackson, 28, was the 3rd death in two weeks on Greers Ferry Lake
Last week’s July 4th holiday weekend was marred by a fatality on Greers Ferry Lake. On Saturday, Rhonda Jackson, 28, is reported to have died from a boating accident. According to Stephanie Weatherington of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, Jackson jumped off the front of the pontoon boat to swim. Although details of the accident aren’t clear at this point, they have determined that the propeller of the boat struck Jackson. Other reports involving the accident indicate that the propeller hit Jackson in the chest, nearly dismembering her arm. Jackson was pronounced dead from the injuries. AGFC reports that the driver of the boat was Darrick Perdew and, as of press time, did not have information on where Jackson was from. Although toxicology reports have been requested on Jackson, Weatherington said those are backed up about 6 to 8 weeks, so no immediate results of the investigation will be available.
This is the third fatality in the past two weeks at Greers Ferry Lake. On July 1, the bodies of Chetana Armbya, 26, and Narain Armbya, 33 were recovered from the lake after disappearing under the water on Saturday, June 29.
