According to, According to Lt. Patrick Weatherford, Newport Police Department, on June 31, the Newport Police Department was dispatched to Harmony Homes Apartments, 1110 N. Pecan St., in reference to a burglary.
Upon arrival, police say they met with a maintenance supervisor who told them that apartment J3 had been burglarized.
Officials say the apartment had been ransacked and that the owner of the apartment later reported several items were stolen including a couch, table, lamps, television and other furniture.
Police found several of the items at a nearby apartment which was occupied by Calamese's girlfriend and spoke with several witnesses who police say further implicated Calamese in the burglary.
"We appreciate the support of the public in helping us solve crimes, " said Weatherford. "More importantly, the victim in this case is grateful to their good neighbors who provided the information necessary to make an arrest in this burglary."
According to police, Calamese's was on parole at the time of his arrest. He has been convicted of at least eight prior felonies and in this current case is charged as a habitual offender.
