Police are investigating the shooting of 20-year-old Tyler Davis, Newport, which occurred late Sunday night.

According to Lt. Patrick Weatherford, Newport Police Department, on Sunday the Newport Police Department was notified of shot fired in the area of Garfield Street. Police say they responded to the area to investigate the complaint when they received a call minutes later that a person who had been shot was at Harris Hospital. Officers made contact with the victim, Davis, who said that he had been riding his bicycle in the area of Garfield and Hirsh Streets when he heard several shots and he was hit by one. The shot hit Davis in the left forearm and also grazed his torso. The injury didn't appear to be life-threatening. Police say they were able to locate several shell casings at the intersection of Ashely Drive and Garfield Street and believe this to be where the shots were fired from. The investigation is ongoing and no arrest have been made.
