James Watt and Martin Dickie are traveling around the U.S., visiting breweries to brew unique beers while trying to find as many “craft beer virgins” to introduce to good beer.
And, thanks to the new show, “Brew Dogs,” that debuted on Tuesday on the new Esquire Network, we can follow the founders of the Scottish BrewDog brewery around for their adventure.
The show signs when Watt and Dickie seek out the craft beer versions to introduce various craft beers to. The reactions of some of these people is quite entertaining, and the look of joy of the women at the senior center when Dickie took off his shirt made me laugh.
Also fun was when the pair sought out the Scorpion Pepper, the hottest pepper in the world, to include in the special beer they were brewing. Their reactions as they take little nibbles of the pepper got a few chuckles.
Interestingly, the part of the show that really dragged was the brewing part. Instead of just brewing the beer at Stone, they set up a small brewery on a train car where the pair, along with Koch, brewed a beer on a round trip from San Diego to Los Angeles. It seemed liked the show was trying to hard to show that the BrewDog guys were wacky and different.
Overall, the strength of the show are Watt and Dickie. They’re both funny, personable guys and really seem to like beer. As a debut episode, it was a decent show and I’ll check it out again.
Did you watch it? What did you think?
