On Monday, September 30, 2013 at approximately 5:39 pm Sheriff David Lucas received a call in reference to a Jackson County Sheriff’s patrol vehicle being involved in a single vehicle wreck on State Hwy 37 North of Grubbs near Ballews Chapel Cemetery.
At approximately 5:52 pm Deputy Steven McCullar arrived at the residence of another Sheriff’s Deputy. Sheriff Lucas and Chief Deputy James Brock responded to the location and upon their arrival discovered that the vehicle had sustained major damage. It was determined that McCullar was traveling North on State Hwy 37 approaching the “S” curves at Ballews Chapel Cemetery. As McCullar entered the “S” curve the vehicle left the roadway on the East side of the road. The vehicle then ran over one road sign and continued in a northerly direction in a field until it came back on the road and continued North on State Hwy. 37. Deputy Steven McCullar was placed under arrest and transported to the Jackson County Sheriff Office where he was booked into the Detention Center on charges of Leaving the Scene of an Accident and Driving While Intoxicated.
