The Newport Police Department is investigating an armed robbery that occurred Sunday night in the parking lot of Hardee's.

Newport Police were notified of an armed robbery at Hardee's. Upon arrival, police say they spoke with the shift manager who stated that she and her boyfriend were in her car about to leave when two people ran up to their car and smashed out their passenger window. According to the police report, the suspects pointed a gun at the shift manager and her boyfriend and demanded money. The victims told police that the suspects, who were wearing black masks, fled on foot with a deposit bag containing a small amount of cash. A witness in the area told police that they seen two black males fleeing on foot in the area of Congress Street, which is two blocks away from the restaurant. Several officers from the NPD and other law enforcement agencies searched the area but were not able to find the culprits.
