The Hope Ladycats debuted their 2013-14 basketball on the road Tuesday against rivals' Prescott Lady Wolves at the Prescott Sports Arena.

The Hope Ladycats debuted their 2013-14 basketball season on the road Tuesday against rivals' Prescott Lady Wolves at the Prescott Sports Arena. Ladycats' returning starter Oshiana Pree put on a stellar performance to lead all scorers with an impressive 24 points. Despite Pree's big scoring performance, the Lady Wolves held on to edge off Hope for win in the closing seconds. The Ladycats suffered a 47-46 loss to the Lady Wolves in a very competitive match-up for the season debut of senior high girls hoops. In the opening quarter, the Lady Wolves took a 10-8 advantage at the conclusion of the first quarter. The Ladycats jumped to a 7-2 lead down to the 3:17 mark led by Jasmyne Farris and Pree providing the scoring. In the second quarter, the Ladycats blazed the net for 14 points with Pree posting six points and Farris dropping seven in the second. Prescott would overwrite Hope's scoring to knock down 17 in the basket to lead at halftime, 27-22 with the Ladycats heading to the locker room with a five point deficit. In the second half, the Ladycats totaled for 24 points as Prescott added 20 points. The Ladycats trailed by seven at the end of the third quarter 40-33. In the fourth, the Ladycats created a little run to fight their way back to come within three points 47-44 of Prescott with 1:29 remaining. Ladycats Bria Wesley hit 1 of 2 at the free-throw line, then Farris scored a quick basket with 57. 2 seconds left cutting their deficit to one point, 47-46. A costly turnover by the Lady Wolves gave back possession to Hope under 20 seconds. The Ladycats went for a trey, but the ball rolled around the basket and Prescott grabbed the rebound and to secured victory, ending game action. For the game, Ladycats' Farris added 15 points to round out double-figures for Hope. For Prescott, Zoie Otwell led scoring with 10 points in double-figures, Chassidy Marks added nine points, Tanesha Evans had eight points and Courtnie Wayne scored seven points. The Ladycats are scheduled to return for their season home opener December 3 hosting New Boston at Jones Field House Gymnasium.
