Shirley Marie Russell Young, 71, departed this life on Nov. 18, 2013 at Seasons Hospice in Naperville, Ill.
Shirley Marie Russell Young was born Aug. 7, 1942 in Rich, Miss. to Percy Russell and Mary Lee Holloway. She was baptized at the age of 9 and accepted Christ at First Baptist Church in Helena. Shirley attended high school at Eliza Miller and was a majorette for the high school marching band. Shirley Marie Russell Young, 71, departed this life on Nov. 18, 2013 at Seasons Hospice in Naperville, Ill. Shirley was married to George Young Sr. who preceded her in death. She leaves a daughter, Tonia Young-Barr (Harold) of Bolingbrook, Ill. and a son, George Anthony Young of Lemon Grove, Calif. Shirley loved and imparted wisdom to her grandchildren, Jeton Young of Milwaukee, Wis.; Harold Barr, Aric Barr, Aryen Barr, Jalen Barr and Tiana Barr, all of Bolingbrook; Ill. and a great granddaughter, Maryah Young of Milwaukee. Those that loved and cherished her included her brothers and sisters, Charles Holloway of Chicago, Ill., Sandra Perkins Hawkins (Joe) of Chicago, Tecumseh Phillip Perkins Jr. of Detroit, Mich., Sharon Perkins Marion (Elique) of Memphis, Mary V. Perkins-Jacobs of Little Rock, Hosie Perkins of Dallas, Texas and Finoy Perkins (June) of Memphis. Besides her parents, her husband and her brother, Melvin Phillip Perkins preceded her in death. She was loved and respected by the many special nieces, nephews and extended family members. Shirley was a dedicated hard worker where she retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a mail Instructor. She also worked at Clairemont Transfer Trucking Co. and Zenith. In Shirley's late teens and early 20s she was a model for various auto shows in Chicago. She shared her love and passion for bowling for over 40 years. Shirley was known as “Iron Arm” around the bowling arena and traveled all over the country bowling in tournaments. Services were held at St. Killian Church in Chicago on Nov. 26, 2013. Slaughter & Son Funeral Home, Ltd was in charge of the arrangements.
