The Jackson County Tourism Committee and the Newport Chamber of Commerce would like the community to come out and take a look at the many decorations around town this Christmas Holiday.

96 trees have been placed mostly around Newport Lake, behind the houses, so that people may drive around in the park to see the trees outlining the lake. Trees were also placed at the Depot, the Courthouse, the Newport Municipal Building, Lockwood park recreational area, Village Mall, Newport Fire Station and various businesses who contributed to the cost of the trees. Dr. Patti Mullins and Buddy Rutledge spearheaded the effort and a full story can be seen in next week's edition of the Newport Independent along with photos of my own as well as some generously submitted by Frank Plegge.
