Shull’s background in higher education is extensive, with over 40 years of experience at the college and university level. Prior to her time at ASU-Newport, she was the Director of a Perkins’ Grant for Retention of Faculty and Mentoring At-Risk Students at Black River Technical College. She also served as the Chair of English, Communications and Humanities for the University of Maryland in Asia. During her time with the University of Maryland, Shull served in various capacities across the globe, as both an instructor and director in Asia, Europe, the Middle East and numerous other locations. She has been published numerous times and has an extensive resume of presentations and public speaking.
Shull earned her Bachelor of Arts in English, French and History from Bowling Green University and her Master of Arts in English from the University of Dayton. She also earned a MA in American Studies from Bowling Green, as well as her Ph.D. in English and American Studies from Bowling Green.
“The position of Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs is key to providing a quality education for our students,” said Shull. “Without quality, affordable education in Arkansas, we lose our young people, we lose our non-traditional students, and people don’t have an opportunity to make a change in their lives. My goal is to make sure that happens.”
As Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Shull will plan, develop, manage and administer programs and strategies for enrollment management and academic affairs. She will work with other ASU-Newport leaders to continue to develop and implement strategic plans to recruit, retain and serve ASUN’s vibrant and diverse student body. In addition to providing leadership and maintaining a climate of collaboration with all divisions of the ASUN community, Shull will serve as the Chief Academic Officer and the Higher Learning Commission Accreditation Liaison Officer.
“I am extremely pleased to introduce Dr. Shull as our new Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs,” said ASUN Chancellor Dr. Sandra Massey. “She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the position and certainly has the respect and admiration of everyone in the ASUN family. Her experience in academics throughout her career and during her time at Arkansas State University-Newport will prove to be invaluable, and the guidance and leadership she brings to the position will have a positive effect on all three campus locations.
