A Jackson County man died Tuesday afternoon in a two-vehicle collision on Highway 67.
According to a State Police preliminary summary filed by Cpl. Doug Cash, Tommy Wayne Emory, 51, was driving a 2000 Buick northbound on Highway 67 at approximately 3 p.m. when he crossed the center line on top of the viaduct at Diaz and struck a 1999 Kenworth semi-truck. The semi was driven by James F. Gatlin, 63, of Alton, Mo.
Emory was pronounced dead at the scene. Gatlin was transported to Harris Hospital for treatment.
Emory was a former Newport Police Officer and dispatcher and former mayor of Campbell Station.
