The Newport City Council voted unanimously during their Tuesday night meeting to  pass a motion offering a 5-thousand-dollar reward for information about the murder of Paul Tinsley.
Last week, a group of citizens offered a 25-thousand- dollar reward for substantive information or evidence leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual or individuals responsible for Tinsley's murder on January 3.
"My feelings are that we should pledge 5-thousand dollars to this reward fund,"  said Newport Mayor David Stewart.  "It would be money well spent if we can make an arrest from it."
There is also a 5-thousand dollar reward that was previously offered for information about last year's murder of James Morgan, according to Stewart.  The money will come from the police department's 2012 budget.
In other business:
-  The council voted to accept a bid from Sigma Supply, Inc. of Hot Springs for garbage bags at a cost of $5.89 per roll.
-  City officials passed a resolution allowing Stewart to enter into an agreement with the White River Planning and Development District, Inc. for renovations at the city's pool.
-  The council voted to pass a resolution authorizing Stewart to enter into an agreement with ETC Engineers and Architects, Inc. for a project to improve the city pool.
-  An ordinance adopting the Arkansas Fuel Gas Code was passed by the city council.
-  City inspector Craig Baker gave a report on a possible condemnation of a house at 615 Vine Street.
