Newport’s Dynamic Duo of television broadcasting, Bud and David Black, are releasing a video time capsule for the community tonight at 7 p.m. on Cable Channel 15.
“Our Town 2010” is a look at the faces, places and civic groups that currently make up the city of Newport.
Watching a previously made time capsule video from the past inspired the brothers to create a newer version, according to older sibling Bud Black.
“We had seen the old 1940’s time capsule,” Black said. “David thought it would be a good idea to show the people, businesses and community of today.”
The Blacks consider making the video their present to the public, and the approximately 2.5 hour video includes footage of the courthouse, civic clubs and churches.
“Some of the architecture of the churches we have here is amazing,” Black said. “This is our gift to the community, and we wanted to show what things are like here in the year 2010.”
One of the more interesting segments, called “Road Trip”, is a tour down one of Newport’s busiest streets.
“We got in the car and filmed while driving down Malcolm Avenue because everybody drives down it,” Black said. “It will be great to look at that segment in a few years to see how much it has changed.”
