Dove Season opened on Saturday, September 2nd this year. In grain fields all over Jackson County, hunters gathered to celebrate the break of the long hunting drought. According to Arkansasonline.com, there are more than 2 million acres of public land open for hunting, but only a small percentage of that acreage is planted in crops attractive to doves. Jackson County has excellent shooting opportunities to gather and participate in two things most Newport and Jackson County people have in common, hunting and fellowship with friends.
