Jackson County has a strong history of sports and athletes with the ability to excel in a sport that can take them to the next level. 2017 Tuckerman graduate Katelyn Platt, although an exceptional academic student, has accepted an athletic scholarship to play softball for Lyon College.

Her career softball stats and records as a Lady Bulldog include being honored as 2A All-State in 2014 and 2016; 3A All-State in 2017, 2A-2 All-Conference in 2014, 2015, and 2016; 3A-2 All-Conference in 2017; Jonesboro Sun- Best Under the Sun Softball in 2016; Arkansas East All-Star Team in 2017; Invitation by Arkansas High School Fastpitch Coaches Association to the Sophomore/Junior Classic in 2015 and 2016.

There have been previous softball standouts, such as Sarah Shipman, but Platt was able to get close to many of her records and break through to make some of her own. As a pitcher, Katelyn’s records include 241 season strikeouts (record was 182), 789 career strikeouts (record was 659), 21 career shutouts (record was 19), 0.20 season earned run average (record was 1.41), 2.12 career earned run average (record was 2.86), two season perfect games (record was 1), and four career perfect games (record was 1). Platt has a career batting average of .371, 248 career at bats, 92 career hits, and 31 season RBI, 76 career RBI, .510 season on base percentage, .470 career on base percentage, and .488 career slugging percentage.

As a member of the Lady Bulldog Softball team since 2014, her legacy includes one conference championship, two conference runner-up, one district championship, two district runner-up, one regional runner-up, four Battle for the Bone wins, and a team record of 69-37. Congrats to Katelyn and we will be cheering you on as a Lyon College Scot!
