There are more than 20 million Americans involved in direct selling. These salespeople enter this market for various reasons including supplementing income or the ability to balance work with family.  Direct sellers join and stay with the industry for a variety of reasons. These include being able to buy products and services one likes at a discounted price, flexibility and work-life balance or the entrepreneurial opportunity to earn extra money, among others. In addition, it has a low cost of entry and low risk.    Most direct sellers offer protections and guarantees to their customers and salespeople, many of which exceed Federal Trade Commission (FTC) regulations, as well as federal and state law. Newport has a great number of community members involved in direct selling.
One popular company is Stella & Dot. Newport has more than one Stella & Dot Independent Stylist, including Megan Gansz and Marcia Curtner.  According to the website, the goal of the company is to give every woman the means to achieve success and balance through a career she loves. The Independent Stylists work when, where, and how they want, selling the unique jewelry and accessories online and in person. In addition to the company support of Every Mother Counts, Stella & Dot also donates to Autism Awareness Month in April and Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.
Women spend billions each year on cosmetics and skin care products. Most notable are Mary Kay and Avon, but other direct selling companies are making a huge impact on the market. Limelight is a popular skincare brand this year. Heather Long is one of the local sales representatives of Limelight. According to the website, “It takes less than a minute for chemicals from skin care products to get into your blood stream. That is why we set out to develop a super effective, free of harmful chemicals skin care line. This line produces such significant results that women all over the country are switching to LimeLight and not only are they looking better on the outside, they are healthier on the inside as well.”
Plexus and direct selling go hand in hand. Americans spend billions on products to keep them healthy. “Plexus Slim® is the delicious, power-packed health drink your body has been waiting for. Slim features a premium microbiome activating formula that contains ingredients clinically-demonstrated to improve gut health and promote weight loss. Feed your gut with beneficial prebiotics, support a healthy glucose metabolism, and lose weight – with one great-tasting pink drink.” The pink drink seems to be the most popular product, but local Plexus girl Jennifer James knows more about it.
Jill Burzinski is a Cabi stylist. According to the Cabi website, “At cabi, we are defying the rules by redefining the way women shop and work – we offer a solution to the frustration of shopping and difficulty of putting outfits together, that in turn provides an alternative career for women that is liberating and profitable. Together we’ll find looks you’ll love, all in the comfort of our alternative store, the home. It’s what’s making us the world’s largest women’s fashion retailer that owns no stores, yet offers in-person styling services. So say goodbye to the frustrations of traditional shopping – sit back, relax and enjoy a new way to shop. We are taking back control, and you won’t ever want to go back.”
The list is numerous of all the direct selling companies in today’s market. The most popular names, including Mary kay, Avon, Pampered Chef and Amway are all going strong. If I was a betting gal, I would bet that most all companies have a representative in Jackson County.
