The Newport Police Department, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, State Police and Emergency Management responded to a bomb threat at Walmart Monday afternoon.

According to Newport Police Lt. Allen Edwards, the call came in at 3:40 p.m. that a C4 bomb had been placed in the store located on Malcolm Ave. The caller, using an out-of-state phone number, wanted money put on a gift card. The store was safely evacuated per Walmart protocol and officers cleared the building before employees and customers were allowed to return just before 5 p.m.
