The Center for Art and Education is $16,000 closer to reaching its $5.4 million Imagine Capital Campaign to move to a new location in the 400 block of Main Street.

Jane Owen, executive director, accepted a check Oct. 12 from the proceeds of the raffle of a 2017 Camaro which was given away during the Downtown Junk Fest over Labor Day weekend.

Marrlin Transit, Metro Gallery and Rhodes Chevrolet partnered to raffle the car off with all profits benefiting CAE’s new building fund in downtown Van Buren.

Owen said the art center has raised $1.2 million of its $2 million goal to receive a Windgate Challenge Grant through donations by Dec. 31.

The Main Street building will serve as the center’s new art education and gallery facility. Plans include the acquisition and development of a half-block area of open-space property behind the building as a landscaped park, sculpture garden and outside events area for the CAE and community.
