The Newport Police Department is currently investigating another vehicle break-in that occurred Saturday evening at the old Newport Hospital clinic.
According to a report filed by Officer Judd Cissell, victim Stephanie Moss reported a purse and laptop were stolen from her vehicle  after the window had been smashed in.
Newport Reserve Officer Derrick Ratliffe responded to the scene and immediately began pursuit of a subject for several blocks before losing sight.
The purse and computer were recovered and the wallet was later found with cash missing.
According to Chief Michael Scudder, charges are expected following the completion of the ongoing investigation.
“I cannot stress enough the importance of locking your vehicles and not keeping valuables in open sight,” Scudder said Monday. The department has investigated multiple cases of vehicle break-ins over the last few months, several of which involved vehicles that were left unlocked.
