The Jackson County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the murder of Campbell Station resident Amanda Michelle Crawford, 33, who was found stabbed to death in her home Saturday night. The suspect, husband Rickey D. Crawford, Jr., 40, of Tuckerman was formally arraigned Monday evening and is being held with no bond at the Jackson County Detention Center for capital murder.
It was reported Sunday morning that Crawford was stabbed multiple times. Her body has been sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab to determined the official cause and manner of death.
The murder was discovered after a call for agency assistance from Diaz Police Officer Ben Barrett. Barrett reported to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office dispatcher that a male subject had jumped in front of his vehicle just north of the Diaz Scrap Yard in an apparent suicide attempt shortly after 8 p.m. The officer did not know at the time that the subject's vehicle had been crashed into the old Shamrock building.
"When deputies arrived, the man involved in the crash made a statement that raised suspicion," Captain Ricky Morales said. "Deputies responded to a home in Campbell Station shortly after the comment was made."
Investigation continued throughout the night and into Sunday before charges were announced.
"We are still processing the scene, looking for information, and seeking anyone who may know what happened in that house Saturdaynight," Morales said Monday.
Crawford is expected to appear before Judge Harold S. Erwin in Third Judicial Circuit Court on December 14 for his First Appearance.
