Barbara Metzler Hackney is please to announce today her candidacy for the office of Jackson County Circuit Clerk.  After living, working and volunteering her time for 40 years in many areas of the Newport and Jackson County community, Ms. Hackney feels it is time to take her experience, talents and dedication and put them to work in the Circuit Clerk’s office.

Ms. Hackney moved to Newport with her family in 1977.  Her father, Rex Metzler, served the public for many years as a community banker, and her mother, Mrs. Virginia Metzler, served the community for 25 years as the Sate Revenue Officer in Newport for the State of Arkansas.  Through her parent’s years of public service, Ms. Hackney came to realize the importance of serving others.  She is a 1983 graduate of Newport High School, attended Arkansas State University and is married to Michael Hackney.  They have one daughter, Anna.

Ms. Hackney’s service to the community has revolved for years around  children and education.  She has volunteered her time with JCYAA, IMAD, various bible schools, the NHS Golf Team, and served as a mentor/reader at Newport Elementary School.  She has also served on the board of Directors for Village Creek Golf Course and has been a dedicated volunteer for several years with the Delta Visual Arts Show.

Ms Hackney’s talents lie in her ability to work with people.  “I believe listening and effective communication are two of the most important strengths you have when dealing with people,” said Ms. Hackney.  “My background is in working with people, both in the public and private sector. I know that when you truly listen to others, you gain their trust and their confidence.  I am ready and willing to listen to people of Jackson County and gain their trust.  I intend to do the best job necessary to effectively run the office of Circuit Clerk.  I look forward to a good campaign and to getting out and meeting with the great citizens right here at home in Jackson County.”
