For those not in attendance, the evening was truly a great time! The Newport Area Chamber of Commerce held the annual Chamber Banquet on Friday, March 16th at the Newport Country Club. The theme this year was Pot ‘O Gold in which anyone in attendance had the chance to win $10,000! The event replaced the Chamber banquet auction as this year’s fundraiser for the Chamber. “Not only did we exceed our fundraising goal of a $3,000 profit, but everyone in attendance had a ball! We look forward to hosting it again in 2019,” states Julie Allen.
The event included food, drinks and live music by the Memphis Yahoos. The fundraiser supports the programs and services of the Newport Area Chamber of Commerce, which is dedicated to promoting the City of Newport and Jackson County by cultivating community involvement, encouraging business alliances, nurturing the growth and development of new and existing businesses, and creating educational opportunities for community youth. The sold out event only offered 100 tickets at $200 each and included one guest per ticket, complimentary beer and wine, heavy hors d’oeuvres, live entertainment and the chance to win $10,000.
The Pot ‘O Gold ticket holders were entered into a reverse raffle where ticket numbers were eliminated throughout the evening until only the three finalists remained. Any ticket holder previously eliminated had the opportunity to purchase “second chance” tickets. One second chance ticket was drawn as a fourth finalist. A fifth finalist was determined by auction for the highest bidder. When the five finalists are determined, they could split the $10,000 pot, but one of the five declined to split and the reverse raffle continued until the remaining finalists agreed to split the pot. The following runner-up prizes were awarded; will be awarded: Justin Foshee won $ 200 (won ticket reimbursement), Dana Bennett won a two night stay at Gold Strike Casino Resort and dinner at The Atrium, Adrienne Freeman won two tickets to Journey/Def Leppard concert on Saturday, July 7th at Verizon Arena, and Kristen Loftin won a women’s white ceramic Philip Stein Tesla watch from Kenneth Edwards Jewelers in Little Rock.
Craig Konkle, John Pennington and Joe Reardon were the big winners of the $ 10,000. These top three finalists collectively agreed to split the $10,000 pot. Make plans to attend next year!!!
