The Jackson County Youth Activities Association celebrated Opening Day on Saturday, May 5th. The event kicked off with a word of prayer by JCYAA President George Stallings. Immediately following, Mrs. Ami Driver sang the National Anthem as only she can, amazingly powerful. All teams were introduced from Junior T-Ball through 13-16 Baseball. Team sponsors and other contributors were recognized with great appreciation.

JCYAA honors local Hometown Heroes each year on Opening Day. This year IMAD’s Phillip Brown and local Photographer Alton Walker were recognized. Each man is a significant and noteworthy contributor to the young men and women of this community. Through the endless hours of photography, Alton Walker captures achievements of athletes, most local events and all things Newport. The numerous endeavors overseen by Phillip Brown to raise money and awareness for IMAD provide opportunities for the young men and women of this community that would be missed otherwise.

All the teams played on Saturday. The Junior T-ball and T-ball play inner league, but Bradford travelled to Newport to oppose the other age divisions. The weather was amazing! Another great opening day!
