The Newport Special School District held a special meeting on Tuesday, May 8th. The meeting took place in the board Room of the Administration Building at approximately 7 pm.
The board members present for the meeting included Presiding Officer Dennis Haigwood, Leroy Mansko, Kathy Green, Jeff Rutledge, Eddie Cooley and Loftin Kent. Bryson Elston was absent for the meeting. The visitors included Dale Ball, Tabitha Hadlow, Becky hood, Bill Boyd, Carolyn Bain, Mandy Smith and Norma Barnhill.
The meeting was called to order at 7:02 pm. Becky Head from Aramark presented the Board with the proposed 2018-19 contract to provide the district with Child Nutrition Services. After discussion, the board approved the contract 6-0.
The board adjourned to a closed meeting at 7:41 pm to discuss resignations and employment of licensed personnel. At 9:07 pm, the board reconvened. Jeff Rutledge moved to accept five resignations. These include Katrina Shoffner (Federal Programs Coordinator), Caleb Gilmore (High School Choral Music), Brent Anderson (High School Ag Science Teacher), Dallas George (Elementary 1st grade Teacher) and Shelby Freesmeyer (Elementary Kindergarten Teacher). The vote to approve the resignations was 6-0.
Kathy Green moved to approve the following employment for the 2018-19 school; Brittney Smith (SPED Teacher to be assigned), Audra Cruz (Elementary Teacher), Tammy Nelson Rushing (Elementary Teacher), Lauren Simpson (Elementary Teacher) and Jon Bradley (High School Assistant Principal). The board approved the employment 6-0.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:11 pm.
