The Newport DRIVE sponsored a concert downtown on Thursday, May 24th from 7 pm to 9 pm. Due to the threat of thunderstorms in the area, the concert was moved indoors at Frankie’s Place, a few blocks from the stage on Front Street.

The event was presented by M&P Banking, Insurance and Investing River Country Concerts. Musical Artist Cory Jackson was the entertainment for the evening. Cory Jackson is an independent singer, songwriter, musician, and all-around entertainer. Cory was born in Jonesboro, Arkansas, and grew up in a small rural farm community just outside of Jonesboro. In his early teen years, he began to pursue his dream of being a performing artist. His grandfather urged him to take music a little more seriously and play and write.

According to Tara Salinas of Merchants and Planters Bank, Cory has writers credit for many songs, and many of those songs have been recorded on his own album collections. To date, he has released two albums, and is currently working on a third. The first, his self-titled EP "Cory Jackson", was released in February of 2015. This collection contained five songs, four of which Cory had writer credit. His second EP "Let's Get It Right" was released in May of 2016. This album also contained five songs and contained three songs that Cory had writer credit. The third album is currently being recorded in the studio and will be his first full-length, ten song album.

One single has been released that will be on the new album. "Row by Row", written by Cory and one of his band members, Matt Thomas, is a song about the hard working American farmer. It describes the everyday life of a farmer from the beginning of each day through his whole life that is dedicated to making ends meet. The single is also accompanied by the release of a video.

Together with his own originals, his live shows display his ability to connect the audience of the young and the old alike. Some of his song choices include George Strait, Charlie Pride, Ronnie Milsap, Merle Haggard, Eddie Rabbitt, Don Williams, Alabama, Brett Eldrige, David Naill, Chris Young, Keith Urban and others Cory has the ability to connect to his audience no matter what the venue setting. Whether it's a laid back acoustic performance, or his high energy stage show, he makes the transition for each performance ease.

Live video performances can be found on his website or by searching Youtube. The event was a great time and a wonderful way to usher in a Newport summer! For more events check out the Newport Area Chamber of Commerce Facebook page.
